Most excavator operators encounter various failures during driving. The most common one is that the digger won’t start. In this article, FridayParts will tell you the possible reasons why the excavator is not working.
Electric circuit
The Excavator circuit is one of the most common reasons for the excavator ignition problem. But how to verify whether the circuit is the real cause of the issue? If you’re facing the following issues, you may consider checking the circuit.
- No response when turning on the ignition switch.
- The starting motor speed is getting low.
How to check?
Firstly, check and clean the battery pile head. Tighten the pile head screws if necessary.
If the battery is fine, the next step is to check the circuit along the battery to see if there is a broken or loose connector.
After that, check the relay and fuse panel. Open the relay box to inspect whether the connector is loose, and then open the fuse box to check if the fuse of the starting circuit is burned out.

The starter motor failure can also cause the digger to fail. A broken starter cannot generate power as usual. Therefore, the battery power cannot be replenished, resulting in a low speed or no starter rotation.
Engine oil circuit
If the starter motor is working fine when you turn the starter key, and there is no abnormal mechanical friction sound from the engine. It can be roughly considered as the oil circuit problem.
How to check?
You can check from the following steps.
- Check if the fuel is enough.
- Check the oil-water separator.

Many operators do not have the habit of draining the oil-water separator every day. If the fuel quality is not good, the excavator won’t start due to the moisture of the diesel is too much.
Check your excavator by following the steps mentioned above. If the excavator is still not working, you may need to consider checking the hydraulic system.
