For most hydraulic excavators, the operating speed is inversely proportional to the load during digging. However, if the hydraulic pump control system is malfunctioning, the excavator cannot work efficiently under different working conditions. Therefore it is essential to know the excavator control system from different manufacturers, such as Komatsu CLSS system, CAT electronic power control system, Hitachi ELLE system, Doosan EPOS system, Etc.

By understanding the basic knowledge of different control systems, we can deal with the faults step by step. For instance, when checking Komatsu and CAT excavators’ problems, we usually start with the electrical system, then the hydraulic system, and finally the mechanical transmission system. For the hydraulic system, check step by step from the pilot oil circuit, then the main oil circuit and actuators.

Excavator runs slow

If it is a second-hand Komatsu excavator used for many years, the speed gradually slows down, which is caused by normal wear and tear. The main reason is that the engine power is reduced, and the hydraulic system is leaked due to the wear of various parts of the entire engine, which leads to a series of excavator failures.

Due to the internal energy consumption caused by the leakage, a large amount of heat is generated, which makes the entire hydraulic system heat up quickly, and the viscosity of the hydraulic oil and engine oil decreases. Usually speaking, the excavator is slightly faster before it runs hot, and the hotter the excavator is, the slower it is. This circumstance requires an overhaul of the entire engine, repairing and replacing parts out of wear.

If it is a new excavator that suddenly slows down, it must check from the following aspects. First, check whether the circuit fuse is open or short-circuited;

Whether the pilot pressure is normal;

Whether the servo piston is stuck;

Whether the distribution valve confluence failure;

For other failure possibilities, disassemble the hydraulic pump.
